I just re-registered an account on Facebook. On a lark, I went searching through photos of my old classmates from high school and the only thing that came up was a bunch of photos of old people. Hmmm...

Sprint Haters: I Am Not One

I heard a report recently that Sprint was one of the most-detested cell phone companies. That's why many people were waiting until the now-exclusive Palm Pre opens on other cell networks next year.

I have been with Sprint for many, many years as my cellphone provider. I've kept each of my phones well past their "hipness" dates and recently upgraded to a top-of-the-line touch phone.

It opened a whole new world to me with music, web and much more. The downside is that it is too easy to accidentally buy things. I've done it twice. I fessed up to my mistake to Sprint, but never actually requested a refund. I was merely asking about ways to make purchases harder. The CSR didn't offer me a solution, other than to be more careful, but he also gave me a complete refund of the charges.

I usually avoid calling big companies, since most of them are ignorant and hold times are so long. I found Sprint is wonderful via email and okay by phone. I do recommend using the email option if you're not in a hurry.

I like to slam companies when they don't care about their customers, but I'd also like to give a nod when a company does care. Thanks Sprint!

I'm Not Impressed with the Tucson Citizen

I know it has only been a few days, but I must say the new Tucson Citizen online version is just a waste of bandwidth.

Some of the early topics on this new "editorial" and "opinion" site include poems, forwarded emails about dog and cat diaries, sad stories about how the the paper used to be, people who liked the paper, people who hated the paper, but no actual substance of any kind.

Only two employees remain, so I know it's hard to function.

I really do wish the Tucson Citizen the best of luck, but if it continues, please re-brand it and leave some sort of legacy to the newspaper, whether people like that legacy or not.

So, a co-worker (not mine) invites us to a party to renew her vows after ONE year of marriage. The invitation says "in lieu of gifts, we request a monetary donation to go toward a delayed honeymoon." Tacky or not? If it helps, we were never invited to the wedding.

Management at work is asking staff to write our own bios, so you might not want to put full faith in what you read. I'm not saying they'll be dishonest, but there's a fine line in making yourself not come off like a snooty, overqualified gift to broadcasting or a Joe Blow who simply fell into a good job.

One of the tricky areas in a bio is making your hobbies sound interesting. Sure, it's fun sitting at home watching pro wrestling and reruns of Seinfeld and Everybody Loves Raymond, but do you really want to say that? It sounds a bit classier to say you enjoy reading Shakespeare, attending the symphony and listening to classical music. After many years of reading and hearing bios of others, only one really sticks in my memory. It's from an "icon" in broadcasting and starts like this...

"It all started at a 500-watt radio station in Fresno, California."
